Awakening to a Daily Presence of God in Your Life

Finding Meaning and Connection Through Daily Presence

We easily assume that experiencing God is restricted to a Sunday morning service or an intense emotional high. You might think Christianity equates only to what happens during a religious gathering, leaving the rest of the week feeling disconnected and dry. If you only seek Him to secure a place in heaven, you miss out on the deeply relational nature of God in all of His ways. The deep longing in your soul is for something far more profound than a weekly routine.

To sustain a vibrant spiritual life, reading Developing an Enduring Faith That Outlasts the Pressures of Life offers essential perspective on lasting resilience. Furthermore, acknowledging that You Need Heart Protection, for Your Heart is Under Constant Attack helps guard your spiritual vitality against distractions. You are designed to experience the excitement and deep connection that comes with following Jesus every single day.

By cultivating a Daily Presence, we shake off the dullness of routine and awaken to a beautiful reality. I want to help you discover how to remain continuously aware of Him, even in your most ordinary moments. This awareness will guide you out of feeling stuck and lead you toward profound peace, clarity, and direction for your life.

What does it mean to practice centering?

Centering is a mental activity or form of prayer where you shift your focus entirely to the Holy Spirit living inside you. By taking just a few seconds to visualize God’s presence, you intentionally redirect your awareness away from worldly distractions and back to Him.

How can I find God in my everyday chores?

You can find God in everyday chores by looking for “glimmers,” which are personal reminders of God with us. For instance, seeing running water can remind you of the Holy Spirit as living waters, prompting you to start a brief conversation with Him right where you are.

Why do I feel disconnected from God during the week?

We often feel disconnected because the sheer volume of daily responsibilitiesโ€”like working, paying bills, and buying groceriesโ€”creates a blur that steals our awareness. We also mistakenly believe God is only present during emotional highs or Sunday services, rather than recognizing His fierce desire for a continuous relationship.

The Reality of Our Overwhelming Routines

The daily life we live quickly becomes incredibly overwhelming. You get up in the morning, brush your teeth, get the kids ready, go to work, make food, pay bills, and buy groceries. The sheer volume of these responsibilities creates a blur that steals our awareness of God with us. This constant busyness makes us feel detached. We want a deep closeness to God and a continuous experiencing of His presence all the days of our lives. We long for an adventure with Jesus that Jesus dreamt of when He created us.

Recognizing the Sacred in the Mundane

A wrong teaching persists in many churches, suggesting the world is entirely bad and we must separate ourselves from it. We hear this and we believe it. God loved the world enough to send His Son, and Jesus died for the world. While systems of the world oppose God, Jesus redeemed so much of it, firstly the people. Nothing is secular anymore. Everything we touch is sanctified, and we make it holy if we do it for God.

We also mistakenly think that because God is omnipresent, He is impersonal. The thought of Him being everywhere is sometimes too big for us, so we park it away and ignore it. He is everywhere all the time, and He is always fiercely relational. He is always intensely intentional about building a deeper friendship and relationship with you.

Shifting Your Mindset for Continuous Connection

Change begins when we start to think differently. You need to believe that the Creator of the universe always wants to be with you, beyond Sundays or religious activities. We must renew our minds to stop thinking of Him as distant. He promised that He will never leave us in our good or bad days. We need to repent, shift our thinking, and renew how we view God with us. This is the first change we need to embrace to experience His Daily Presence.

The second change is becoming intentional about looking for Him. God is not lost. We must be intentional in our seeking of His awareness every moment of every day, 24-7. We mistakenly tie His closeness to emotional religious experiences. Renewing your mind means acknowledging He is present even when we lack an emotional high. If we are not intentional about becoming aware of Him in the mundane, we will miss out on so much. I am going to give you two keys to help you become more aware of His presence in your life for longer periods.

The Powerful Practice of Centering

The first key is what the saints of old called centering. Centering is a way of prayer or a mental activity designed to shift our focus to the center of our lives. Jesus is at the center of your life always, and the Holy Spirit lives in your spirit. To practice this, imagine the Holy Spirit inside of you. You can imagine a flame burning, a fountain of living waters flowing, or Jesus living inside your spirit.

Centering takes a second or a minute to forget about everything around us and turn your attention to the person inside of you. It helps to close your eyes and visualize that flame burning inside of you, representing the Spirit of God. This centering practice is extremely easy but also a powerful way for us to become aware of God’s presence. It provides a fast reset for your mind and spirit.

Recognizing Spiritual Glimmers Throughout the Day

The second key is using what I call glimmers. Glimmers are reminders of God with us. Since the Holy Spirit is sometimes called living waters, seeing water flowing while washing dishes can remind you of Him. It triggers you to center and think about the One who is inside of you. This acts as an invitation to start a conversation while doing chores.

You can use whatever works for you. Setting a reminder on your phone to center yourself is highly effective. When it goes off, take a few seconds to focus, greet the Holy Spirit, and carry on. Sometimes it becomes a longer conversation or a worship moment. For you, a glimmer could be a smile, seeing your children, a song, laughter, the wind, or a dove. Whatever is meaningful to you can become the glimmer to help you center. This practice operates smoothly whether you are running, doing chores, taking out the garbage, or having a meal. God is omnipresent and not restricted to a worship session.

Experiencing Peace in Bloom

As you are intentional about becoming aware of His presence, joy and peace will bloom and grow in your life. Peace is the tangible presence of the Holy Spirit. The excitement of following Jesus comes back into your life because it applies to every part of your life, not just one hour a week. The boring dust gets shaken off, and everything becomes meaningful. Packing a lunch box for your kids or making the bed becomes meaningful in a beautiful new way. We rarely think God is in those silly little things, but He is.

Stepping Into a Transformative Awareness

Set the reminder and remind yourself of the glimmers you have experienced in the past. Make a point to use them to remind you to center yourself. You can teach yourself this transformative habit and bring it into your life. Imagine what it would be like if God showed up at your dinner table or at your place of work. Take the first step today.
