Rebuilding the Structural Integrity of Your Faith This Easter

Rediscovering what matters as Easter approaches

This year has moved quickly. It feels like just a moment ago it was Christmas, and now Easter is already here.

Life has a way of doing that. Days, weeks, and months begin to blur together. Responsibilities, work, and everything we carry fill our time, and before we know it, we arrive at an important moment without really slowing down to notice it.

And when that happens, it becomes easy to just exist instead of truly living, especially when we think about the abundant life Jesus promised.

But Easter gives us a real opportunity to stop.

It invites us to take stock and refocus on what really matters. It brings our attention back to our relationship with God. When that is in place, everything else begins to settleโ€”your peace, your purpose, and how you move through each day.

You may already have seen how this works on a deeper level in Trying Harder Isnโ€™t Workingโ€”How Inner Formation Creates Real, Lasting Change. That same principle applies here.

This is not about adding more. It is about coming back to what matters most.

1. What is Easter, and why is it important?

Easter is the remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus. It brings our focus back to the cross and what was done for us, helping us reconnect with the foundation of our faith.

2. How can I approach Easter when life feels busy?

Set aside small, focused moments, reduce distractions, and spend intentional time in the Gospels. Even simple steps can help you refocus.

3. What should I read around Easter?

The Gospelsโ€”especially John, Luke, and the accounts of the crossโ€”help you understand the depth of Jesusโ€™ sacrifice and resurrection.

Rebuilding the Structural Integrity of Your Faith This Easter

The Unnoticed Drift of Familiarity

Drift does not usually happen because we choose to walk away. It happens because we become unintentional.

Life fills up, and slowly our attention shifts. What once felt weighty begins to feel familiar.

Hebrews 2:1 (KJV) says, โ€œTherefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.โ€

That slipping is quiet.

We know the story of Easter. We know about the cross, the suffering, and the resurrection. But because we have heard it so many times, our minds recognize it and move on. What should stop us and draw us in can easily become something we just acknowledge.

At the same time, there is another pressure.

Easter has become very commercial. There is a lot around it that pulls our attention in different directions. What is sacred can easily become mixed with what is temporary, and without realizing it, our focus is scattered.

These two thingsโ€”familiarity and distractionโ€”work together.

And slowly, we drift.

Not because we want to, but because we have stopped paying attention.

Returning to Intentional Focus

So how do we step out of that drift?

Hebrews gives us the answer. We are told to give more earnest attention. That means we have to be intentional.

Letโ€™s take a moment to consider what that looks like.

Intentional Time

You need to set aside time.

Not whatever is left over, but time that is chosen on purpose. Time where you step away from everything else and give your attention to God.

Even a short moment, if it is focused, can begin to shift something inside of you.

When you do this, you start to notice a change. The pace around you may still feel busy, but internally, things begin to settle.

Intentional Focus

Focus matters.

John 3:16 (KJV) says, โ€œFor God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Sonโ€ฆโ€

This is where everything begins.

Godโ€™s love moved Him to send Jesus. Jesus gave His life so that we could be restored to Him.

This is not just something to understand. It is something to return to.

And this is not about getting everything right. It is about your heart turning back toward Jesus.

God sees that.
He responds to that.

Engaging Scripture With Fresh Eyes

To move out of familiarity, we have to engage again.

During this time, go back to the Gospels. Read John. Read Luke. Or read through the accounts of the cross in all four.

But slow down as you read.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see something clearly again. Ask Him to bring the story back into focus, not as something distant, but as something present.

Because this is not just a story.

This is where everything changed.

As you read, you will begin to see things more clearlyโ€”the obedience of Jesus, the cost of what He carried, and the depth of His love.

And this is where something begins to shift in you.

This same idea of focus shaping your life is something we also explored in The Architecture of Faithful Endurance in Christian Leadership. What you give your attention to will shape what grows in your life.

Rebuilding Identity Through the Cross

As you spend time in this, the story becomes clear again.

Yes, it is a story of suffering and sacrifice. But it is also a story of hope, of victory, and of an empty tomb.

You begin to see the weight of sin more clearlyโ€”not just in general, but personally. And yet, instead of feeling condemned, you begin to see something else.

You begin to see the love of God.

A love that chose the cross.
A love that carried the weight.
A love that paid the price.

And this is where your identity becomes clear.

You are not defined by your past. You are defined by what Jesus has done.

As this settles, something softens in your heart. You begin to sense a tenderness toward Jesus. You begin to hear His voice more clearly, not because He has changed, but because you are paying attention again.

Application

Letโ€™s keep this simple.

Start with your time.

Look at the next few days and choose specific moments where you will step away and spend time with God. Keep those moments. Protect them.

Then look at what is filling your attention.

What can you reduce? What can you step away from, even for a short time, so that you can focus again?

Replace that space with Scripture, with prayer, or even just quiet.

And as you do this, come expectant.

God is not distant. He is present.

And He wants this connection with you even more than you do.

Coming Back to What Matters

Life will always move quickly.

Easter gives you a moment to pause and come back to what matters.

It brings your attention back to Jesus. And as you do that, something begins to settle and strengthen inside of you.

This is not about striving harder.

It is about coming back.

And as you turn toward Him again, you will find that He has been there all along.
